• ESHLEMAN RETIRES FOLLOWING 38 YEARS OF SERVICE
Friday, June 20, 2008

Long-time dedicated employee, Larry Eshleman is heading for the greener pastures of retirement following 38 years of devoted service to The Longacre Company in Bally.

Eshleman was hired into the Longacre family business in 1970 by the late J. Arland Longacre, to head the Agricultural division of The Longacre Company. The Agricultural division was a major part of The Longacre Company at the time and specialized in supplying, installing and maintaining milking equipment to the vast number of dairy farms that occupied the region.

Eshleman occupied that position until several years ago when the farming industry drastically shrank and finally gave way to housing developments and small industry. At that turn, The Longacre Company adapted to the needs of the economy and expanded their plumbing division, moving Eshleman into their farm-supply / plumbing store on Main Street across from the company headquarters.

“When we made the decision to dissolve the dairy division, it was difficult,” said Steve Longacre, son of J. Arland Longacre and current Vice President. “Both my grandfather and greatgrandfather were farmers and my father made that a core part of our business with Larry at the helm. When the time came to move Larry into our plumbing store, he didn’t miss a beat. He welcomed the challenge, adapted to the change and continued to make valuable contributions toward the prosperity and growth of our company.

“Larry was always full of great ideas including ideas for marketing our business. He always stayed positive in a struggling industry while working beside my father and through to his retirement. He has been an extremely valuable employee and leader in the company and will be missed.”

Eshleman resides in the Bally area with his wife, MaryAnn.
